Sennheiser's finest open back dynamic headphones, and possibly the best on the market. Sennheiser originally came up with their HD580 Precision headphones which were then heralded as the best dynamics ever by most reviewers. A special version called the HD580 Jubilee was also available as a strictly limited edition which represented the closest tolerance HD580 sets that came off the factory assembly line, with selected left and right drivers matched by their response curves to within 1dB, and they were given a slightly improved grill and outward cosmetic appearance. In an ideal world, Jubilees and Precisions would be indistinguishable, and they do sound very close in practice, but the careful selection of the best matched parts for the Jubilee made them more desirable to audiophiles - however, their limited edition soon became exhausted, and they are no longer available. Due to demand, by 1997, Sennheiser has once again restarted this selective method with the new HD600 being the cat's whiskers of HD580 sets. They are repackaged with a new blue / black appearance, improved carbon fibre headband and a smart presentation case, making a very, very good set of high-end headphones for those who don't want the inconvenience of electrostatic headphones which require a separate preamp. (Having said that, there are specialist dedicated external headphone preamps available, some of which can take the performance of the HD600s way beyond that of entry level electrostatics.)
